چکیده

To analyze and understand the growing wealth of scientific data, complex workflows need to be assembled, often requiring the combination of looselycoupled resources, specialized libraries, distributed computing infrastructure, and Web services. However, constructing these workflows is a non-trivial task, especially for users who do not have programming expertise. This problem is compounded for exploratory tasks, where the workflows need to be iteratively refined. In this paper, we introduce workflow medleys, a new approach for manipulating collections of workflows. We propose a workflow manipulation language that includes operations that are common in exploratory tasks and present a visual interface designed for this language. We briefly discuss how medleys have been applied in two (real) applications.

Workflow authorisation in mediator-free environments

WorkFlow Management Systems (WFMS) coordinate and streamline business processes. Acquiring workflow authorisations and managing workflow authorisation constraints is a challenging problem. CurrentWFMSs assume a centralised global workflow authorisation model. In this paper, we propose a distributed workflow authorisation model with no central authorisation manager for a mediator-free environmen...

Dartflow: a Workflow Management System on the Web Using Transportable Agents

Workflow management systems help streamline business processes and increase productivity. This paper describes the design and implementation of the DartFlow workflow management system. DartFlow uses Web-browser embedded Java applets as its front end and transportable agents as the backbone. While Java applets provide a safe and platform independent GUI, the use of transportable agents makes Dar...

Using automated planning for improving data mining processes

This paper presents a distributed architecture for automating data mining processes using standard languages. Data mining is a difficult task that relies on an exploratory and analytic process of processing large quantities of data in order to discover meaningful patterns. The increasing heterogeneity and complexity of available data requires some expert knowledge on how to combine the multiple...
